SOCIAL WORK by OLA ADENE (A Review)

Image
Social Work by Ola Adene is an exciting album that explores almost all areas of existence as it concerns the Nigerian society. I believe this album is his own idea of a Social Responsibility. After casually listening to this album more than twice, all I can say is I'll be doing a lot of re-emphasis. Lessons from My Childhood . Here, we are exposed to the typical childhood nature of an average Nigerian child growing up. The intricaces, the cover ups, the misinformations. And we all in

ROLL OUT THE SWEATSHIRTS

Image
ROLL OUT THE SWEATSHIRTS The First Rain has fallen gentlemen, and though it is not yet rainy season, now is the time to roll out those sweatshirts. We were all playing football on Sunday evening at our regular training pitch when we heard the sound coming from a distance, hitting on rooftops coming alongside a strong wind that kept blowing away everything, we knew what it was. The rain had come. Those of us that refused to allow our cleats (soccer shoes) have a feel of the rain ran for cover. Some others remained unwavering as they kept playing in the rain. Well, this is not an article about rain or soccer, however now that it has started raining, gentlemen it is time (like Elijah would say). Time to roll out those sweatshirts, time to put aside those suede shoes, it is another time to make a statement. Let us have a brief thread on matching your sweatshirt for the crazy weather.

Game of Numbers

I am a Number between 1 and 10 Take a lucky Guess!!! I couldn’t have been a 9 That would have been way too easy to guess Neither am I a two Cos it’s just I in the picture And I am not a pair Overall 2 would still be way easy If you think I'm an 8 Then I'll be so excited with near perfection And being an hourglass But I hate that I’m not And I hate to think about that So I'll stick to talking about numbers I'm not an 8 Three is a crowd Death can't kill a crowd And all men must die Queens wear crowns Queens die and I want a crown So it’s not a 3, I'm giving you that easily PS: I'm not a fan of trees That’s why I burn them as I write this 7 perfect number Wish I was perfect But I know I’m not Whose idea was it to relate 7 to perfection? For perfect could have been 4 And 4 for perfection Four legs stand a chair Four legs stand a table Four legs run faster than 2 And I bet 4 eyes should see better than 2 7's and 4's I...

Letter to Ebunoluwa (2)

Image
Dear Ebun, I didn’t forget to write to you, there's just been a lot going on lately and I have been very busy, but never too busy for you. So while I write my resignation/appreciation letter, I'll tell you all about my new year, precisely about my cross-over night. 2018 eventually ended, and I have not seen you since that time at the lounge. I went to church like every other Christian and non-Christian out there, but before then I had to go to work on the 31st, then see a friend and also attend a little end of the year party thrown by Jide. I eventually got to church around 7 since I had to rehearse for a drama and we went on stage few minutes to 11, and presented a wonderful play. Which i would write about to you in a few days. The service was wonderful, and so much fun, I heard awesome testimonies and overall it was a lovely and lit-up night. The Pastor began his sermon, and we all listened with keen interest to the tick-tock of the clock as it was about ...

HARMATTAN IS HERE. (SOME HELPFUL TIPS)

Image
So Folks, the harmattan season is upon us. Harmattan is here…. And of a truth it happens to be my favorite time of the year, but for this runny nose, headache, incessant sneezing and eye itch, I’m here crying and praying for winter to just come and take over. I don’t want harmattan anymore. So while I write this post in not the best of moods and health, my dad has been giving me hot water and honey to drink, my mom has been giving me cappuccino with Ultima C and Vitamin C for sides, my sisters went to bring this capsule for me to take. As long as I feel better, ain’t no overdose fam. Moving on, I’ve drank and I’m still drinking, and nothing seems to work, so I’m on Google right now browsing on how to stop this ish. And I been seeing many medical jargons and stuffs, I’m going to share with you some of these useful tips tho, It might be helpful yunno. Meanwhile, I have put them in simple numbering format.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING

Image
IMAGE: ENEZE ADAVA "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas, just like the one I used to know, blah blah blah blah blah blah... And may all your Christmases be white..." I bet we all know that song.. CHRISTMAS IS COMING, and what do you want for Christmas? You know there's like the dream to all move overseas and do something worthwhile, but yo, nothing beats coming back with all the swag to see your homeboys and homegirls, I mean nothing beats Christmas in Nigeria.. Where else will you see Chinedu Manchester, Bayo Malay or Daniel Finland celebrating Christmas together? Or is it Abdul, God'sglory, and Ogunniyi all hanging out at the mall, different religions, one celebration..

S.I.O REVIEW

Image
S.I.O: TOBI BAMIDELE’S REVIEW The Theme: VIVID According to the ENGLISH dictionary that we download from Google Playstore which a planetary percentage of us have on our smartphones; VIVID means "A felt-tipped permanent marker, genericised from the brand". I tried in all honesty to relate this definition to the S.I.O spoken words concert and I couldn't make much sense from it. Then, I came across other meanings of VIVID like "Clear, Detailed, Powerful, Bright, Intense, Colourful" which is quite reasonable. However, I needed something deeper to vibe with and google is never far away. Google describes vivid as "giving powerful feelings or strong clear images in the mind, to evoke" and right there and then, I could feel the dots connecting.

IN MY COUNTRY

Image
Art by @oseikhuemen_aikpehae In my country, We have apples.. We have the largest Apple orchard in the World. People from far and near come for our Apples. But we don't eat our Apples For we are bound by chains of Corruption Our mouths pierced and locked by pot-bellied monsters We own the land and orchard But we're slaves in and to our Land Our leaders are on the tree They choose who and to whom the Apple feeds The worms feast on the ones that drop For we are locked out of our pride. The day will come when I'll burn down the land. The smokes that'll rise ll make the heavens cry And I'll laugh in hysteria. WELCOME TO NIGERIA - Tobi Bamidele

Few months ago, Which happens to be a year +, I took a break from blogs and writing to concentrate on a 9-5 job. And FAM, naah I was really not cut out for a 9-5.

PERSPECTIVES (Ep 1)

Image
Life is all about this; Let’s talk about an apple, what does an apple have to do with this? Let’s imagine you’re sitting under an apple tree, and an apple falls down from this tree; ME, I’ll see A FRUIT TO EAT after breakfast. My friend said he’ll see a fruit to whip into SMOOTHIES , the other with the business sense said he’ll see an orchard. But in the 18’s, Isaac Newton saw what no one else saw, he saw a pull, and he called it GRAVITY, propounding the law of gravity. Now look again.

EXQUISITE SET (BOWEN UNIVERSITY CLASS OF 2015)

Image
Sometime back, about a year ago. Bowen University graduated her class of 2015, "EXQUISITE SET" By all indications, everyone was very happy and looked forward to convocation day when we could all say "YES, finally we are free" (It felt like a 4-year jail sentence, every school does that to you). I stumbled upon a piece i did for the graduands (myself inclusive), and thought i should just share it after the time being (of course,it is an original piece of mine). IT GOES THUS

MY FATHER

Trials truly reveal the true face behind every man We are all covered with a mask Some never get to unmask themselves Others have them ripped off their faces leaving a scar Still life cant be fair to all men It all seems like a plan I found a man

My Trip to a Homeland

Tall trees, green grasses A lot of flowers, a sight so pretty Canoes sail, underneath the bridge Bridges all clear, no scenes Straight roads, curved turnings Smooth roads, big worry Roads all clear, lot of checkpoint

THE LOST SOUL

Image
You get to a stage in life where nothing matters anymore The world has molded you into what it wants you to become; DEPENDENT, UNSTABLE, LOW UNENTREPRENEURAL, SAD, THE UNTRUE THOUGHT THAT YOU ARE LIVING THE PERFECT LIFE THAT JOB YOU THINK YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THAT MENTALITY THAT YOU CANNOT DO IT THAT FEELING OF DOWNCAST THAT ANGER TOWARDS THE WORLD A BROKEN SOUL, A PIERCED HEART, A DARK AND COLD EYES, A HEARTLESS MIND, A CORRUPT MIND A WICKED BEING and the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on. At this stage nothing matters anymore, you take life as it is It has eaten you up to the point you feel there is no repair It has beaten you down, you feel there is no rematch You’ve been trampled, you feel numb You’ve been broken, you feel broken If it were up to you to pull the trigger, you will do before a second thought pops up You feel the chill…………………….. *walks away*

Men/Women with wicked Potentials (Part 2)

Image
He is another man that describes leadership. Another proud Economist in the Making. With his stature and brilliance, he should be proud, But getting to know him, he is one of the most humble people you will come across. Theres a lot to learn from him. And my second feature goes by the name

MEN/WOMEN WITH WICKED POTENTIALS (Part 1)

Image
And now readers, about my first feature, I met this humble man when I was in 100 level, he was then the newly elected President of NESA Bowen. Listening to him and just watching him sure tells you a lot about leadership. He has risen fast above his contemporaries, and I see him in the near future as a force to reckon with. There is a quote that say “Surround yourself with people on the same mission as youself” For all of you, this is a man you have to know.

Men/Women with Wicked Potentials

Image
In this series, i would be taking you all on a profile journey. When i mean Wicked Potentials, i am only going to be looking at the two words present in the definition of wicked which are "extremely bad". A man with a wicked potential is a man to watch out for: He has an extremely bad profile, and in the near future, he is going to make exploits. He is that youth who we can all look at and point our fingers to him that YES, That is definitely a youth that is working #TowardsAGreaterNigeria. It is not restricted to just men, we have women with wicked potentials. They possess qualities present in the men, also forces to be reckoned with. Everyday, you come across people, and after listening to them, you can just make a distinction between those that you will sure want to make friends with and those that just have to pass by. WATCH OUT FOR THEM Now i am not going to be presenting strange names. The people i will be featuring are people i have come across these pa...
