ROLL OUT THE SWEATSHIRTS

ROLL OUT THE SWEATSHIRTS

The First Rain has fallen gentlemen, and though it is not yet rainy season, now is the time to roll out those sweatshirts.

We were all playing football on Sunday evening at our regular training pitch when we heard the sound coming from a distance, hitting on rooftops coming alongside a strong wind that kept blowing away everything, we knew what it was. The rain had come.

Those of us that refused to allow our cleats (soccer shoes) have a feel of the rain ran for cover. Some others remained unwavering as they kept playing in the rain.

Well, this is not an article about rain or soccer, however now that it has started raining, gentlemen it is time (like Elijah would say).

Time to roll out those sweatshirts, time to put aside those suede shoes, it is another time to make a statement. Let us have a brief thread on matching your sweatshirt for the crazy weather.

  • SWEATSHIRTS

With sweatshirts, we can almost never go wrong, be it a corporate affair, a casual outing, a business meeting, a date, whatever occasion it is we can always rock a clean, classic sweatshirt and make a statement. It’s also a wonderful avenue to explore your colorful side.

Stand out in your favorite color, with matching pants (please we do not mean you should go red on red naah) with matching pants, I mean a color mix, warm vs cold, high-low transition, noise-balance.

Also, do not forget that your skin color matters a lot. Shop or pick what would make you stand out as a classic, not a street pole or a masquerade. We’re not clowning here.
  • SHOES

As gentlemen, most of us wear a lot more shoes than sneakers. We would not want to ruin our suede shoes in mud or water, or ruin our Nike or Adidas slides as we cannot predict the time and moment the rain would come calling, so it’s time to hang those suede shoes and roll out the leather shoes.

Be it Chelsea boots (my personal favorite), Oxfords, Monkstraps, or Brogues, we would always slay in our leather shoes.

And our two safest leather mix remains black and brown, cream or nude in special cases, whatever the occasion, there’s a leather shoe to match.

For business or work, I recommend a black or brown depending on the pants or shirt you are putting on.

But for dates and others, whatever is comfy and classic, if it feels right and makes you feel confident, then it is a go.
  • PANTS

Picking the right pants should not be much of a problem. The idea is to make a mental image of what you want.

Now while we have heard the basics, another important aspect we should consider is choosing colors. As men, our traditional colors remain;

- White

- Grey

- Navy blue

- Light blue

- Brown

- Deep blue or indigo

- Black.

Also while trying to play with colors, we should always note that

- High contrast combinations should always be complementary

- Low contrast combinations should most invariably be different shades of the same color.

- But your black, white and grey can be matched on anything, they are standalones.

So gentlemen, let us go over some minor do nots again for the new weather.

- No suedes

- No denims

- No timidity.

And when in doubt, look at the man in the mirror.

Slay…
